The Showband of the South is the esteemed marching band of J.M. Tate High School in Gonzalez, Florida. Over the decades, the Showband has participated in numerous prestigious events, including appearances in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, D.C., the Fiesta Bowl Parade in Arizona, the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, as well as special performances at Pearl Harbor and in Ireland.
In 1980, the Showband achieved national recognition by winning the inaugural Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championship. They returned to the Grand Nationals in 1989, securing a spot as a finalist. The band's color guard notably excelled, earning accolades for their exceptional performances.
Beyond marching, Tate High's Showband of the South is renowned for its outstanding drumline, which has competed in the World Championship competitions in Dayton, Ohio. The band's colorguard, known as the "Tate Chaparrals," clinched first place in the WGI Scholastic World Class Competition in 1989. The Showband's enduring legacy is marked by a commitment to excellence and a tradition of inspiring performances.
