Jazz Submission Deadline

Jazz Band auditions are due on June 15.

Students must upload three separate audio files to the submission sheet. Each excerpt should be recorded and uploaded as its own individual file.

Audio File 1:
Play “Swing Excerpt #1.”

Audio File 2:
Play “Ballad Excerpt #2.”

Audio File 3:
Play “Latin/Straight 8th Excerpt #3.”

If you are auditioning on multiple instruments, for example, tenor saxophone and bari saxophone, you must complete the full audition on each instrument.

The tempos listed are recommended tempos. Please play at a tempo where you are most proficient and can demonstrate your best tone, time, style, and accuracy.

Please make sure each file is clearly labeled with the student’s name, instrument, and excerpt number before uploading.

Wind Ensemble Minimum Playing Requirements:

• 12 major scales (1 octave minimum)
• Must be played from memory
• Chromatic (1 octave minimum )
• 2 minute time limit (current high school) 
• 3 minute time limit (incoming 9th graders) 
• Played in the Circle of 4ths, beginning with Concert C
• 5 points per complete octave

Symphonic Band  Minimum Playing Requirements:

• 12 major scales (1 octave minimum)
• Memorization is not required 
• Chromatic (1 octave minimum )
• 2 minute time limit (current high school)

• Played in the Circle of 4ths, beginning with Concert C
• 5 points per complete octave
• Sight Reading

Concert Band  Minimum Playing Requirements:

• 4 major scales (1 octave minimum)
• Memorization is not required 
• Chromatic (1 octave minimum )
• 1.5-minute time limit
• Played in the Circle of 4ths, beginning with Concert C
• 5 points per complete octave
• Sight Reading
