The Showband of the South is the esteemed marching band of J.M. Tate High School in Cantonment, Florida. Over the decades, the band has performed at some of the most prestigious events in the nation, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Orange Bowl Parade, the Cherry Blossom Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and the Tournament of Roses Parade. The Showband has also represented Tate High School internationally, with special performances at Pearl Harbor and in Ireland.
In 1980, the Showband made history by winning the first-ever Bands of America Grand National Championship. They returned to Grand Nationals in 1989, earning a place as a finalist. The band’s color guard distinguished itself with exceptional performances, earning national accolades for excellence.
Beyond marching, the Showband is known for its outstanding drumline, which has competed at the World Championship competitions in Dayton, Ohio. The Tate Chaparrals, the band’s celebrated color guard, earned first place in the WGI Scholastic World Class Competition in 1989.
From national championships to international performances, the Showband of the South continues to build on a legacy defined by dedication, artistry, and pride. Each generation of students carries forward the tradition of inspiring performances and musical achievement.
